teacher gift

Emily had the best teacher this past school year, Mrs. Clarkson....love her! All of us in our family love her, love her, love her!! She is the best!

One example of why we love, love, love her...in February Emily passed out at school, fell on the black top, head first, threw up...then a 911 call and her first and hopefully last ride as a patient in an ambulance....Mrs. Clarkson was so sweet...that night I called her to give her an update and she said "how is our girl?" I just love this woman you can tell she truly loves each of her kindergartners!

I wanted to give Mrs. Clarkson something to show her how much I appreciate all of the blood, sweat and tears that she put into my child for this past school year so I whipped up a nice sized patchwork throw for her to use while watching a movie, snuggling under to keep her warm and cozy and this is what I came up with.

two in one

I am going to post about two different things...first it is Father's Day...I love my dad and I feel very fortunate that my dad and I are close....and he likes my husband and my husband likes him! :) My dad spent his summers as a boy in Kentucky so he is a farm boy at heart....last summer we had a few chickens at our home, not in our home but in the backyard in an old dog run....once the weather turned we gave the chickens to my dad...he calls them "the girls" cracks me up...I think he treats the chickens better than he treats himself...anyways....I wanted to make my dad a patchwork/crazy quilt for Father's Day...found some PERFECT chicken fabric to go in it...he loved it!!

2nd part of my 2 part post....I participated in a mini quilt swap. OH MY am I a lucky girl!!! Yesterday afternoon but what did I see in my mail box? A package! And from Switzerland!!! YAHOO! I knew it had to be something special and it is...I opened ok, ripped it open and gasped, it is lovely!!! It is AQUA my FAV color right now!! It is just so neat, I love the bird in the center, I love the wonkiness of the sqaure, I love the polka dots, I love the aqua, did I say that already? My swap partner is Sandra, and her blog is lovely...my daughter loves to listen to the music on her blog, I do too! My partner (the gal that I made a mini quilt for) is Nicole in California....like a total dork I forgot to take a picture of the mini quilt that I sent her...but I made an aqua/red log cabin sqaure for her...think I might need her to take a picture of it and send it to me...can't belived I forgot to do that! This mini quilt swap has been so fun, can't wait to do it again!

woo hoo for #2 (in the POTTY!!)

I know this is kinda a gross thing to post about BUT....my 2nd child, my LAST child (that is what a hystorectomy at 35 will do to ya) is ALMOST 100% potty trained and by potty trained I mean doing #1 AND #2 in the potty, no more diapers!! YAHOO!!!

My husband and I were talking the other day, E. will be 6 in August so we have been changing diaper(s) for almost 6 years! Now I know there are other people out there that have changed diapers for a lot longer than that (how about the Dugger family!?) NO WAY! J. potty trained himself at the end of last summer for going tinkle and he has been sleeping w/o a diaper for almost 6 months. We first used going to Chuck E. Cheese as a reward for going #2 in the potty, that took a few weeks for him to finally want it that bad that he went in the potty, next day....he wanted a diaper...I gave him a diaper, he went #2 then I had the brilliant idea to get rid of the diapers (never said I was a quick learner!) The next day J. comes up to me, "diaper mamma" I said, "there are no more diapers," took him over to the diaper holder in his closet and NO diapers (cue the dramatic music) ummmm well.....he did not poop for almost 3 days! BUT when he did, it was in the training potty!!

Yesterday and this morning, came right up to me...."mamma got to go poop" GREAT!!! I had to take a picture of him though...1st picture he was not happy with me getting a shot of him on the pot....2nd picture I asked him to make his eyes real big, so that is why he has the funny face, no more diapers, yahoo!!! (cue the music of angels singing!)

Anyone notice in the 2nd picture I did some clean up? No plunger or laundry on top of the sink for the 2nd picture :)

craft hope

I think I must subscribe to almost 100 blogs, almost all of them crafty in one way or another....yesterday or the day before I noticed a posting about Craft Hope and I clicked away, I hope you do too. I am going to make a quilt for a baby in India, for a baby that would not normally have a blanket to be swaddled in, can you imagine?
I am done having babies, no more for me...but I love babies and I can't wait to get started on this little number. The thing I love about this...I have so much fabric and batting in my stash this will cost me NOTHING but the postage to mail it off but what do I love MOST about this? The thought of a little boy or girl having a blanket wrapped all around them, some comfort, some warmth from this momma that will probably never know them or see them...once a momma always a momma......

pics from the Farm Chicks

This past Sunday two of my friends and I went to the Farm Chicks show....there were so many more booths this year! I honestly don't think you could go through every booth in just one day....All three of us found some little treasures...I bought an old white soap dish, for $2.00! I also bought my initials at a booth selling old printer press letters, I have had an old printing press drawer forever where I but little trinkets and mementos and now have some letters to go in it! I also found the cutest sterling silver toaster holder, so fancy back in the day, I am going to use it for organizing mail, lists, memo's....that was only $3.00....Below is a picture of my girlfriends and I then there is a picture of me with the Farm Chicks themselves....they had the cutest frame set up with little banners to hold, darling!! Yes I am wearing an apron, someone in your group has to!

a favorite thing

....these are a few of my favorite things...I am going to try and do one post a week of a favorite "thing" of mine. For the first "favorite thing" post is my rusty, made from scraps of oil drums rooster....I love this rooster! Several years ago I was out and about with my gang of gal friends and I spied one of these at a flea market, I about died, I just loved it....the 1st one I ever came across at this show was BIG and the price tag was BIG too if I remember it was well over $400.00. Not gonna happen on my budget....so I pined and pined away for years over it...saw them occasionally at garden shows, flea markets...places like that....

THEN a few weeks ago a few of my gang of gals and I were in this awesome store in Spokane that is going out of business and everything is 50% off....and what did I see? Yep several of these roosters and they were the smaller size so their price tag was smaller AND now 50% off!! I thought about it and thought about it and then went home and "talked it over/asked my husband" about it...found a few pics on flickr so I could show him an example (it is hard to describe to some one who has never seen one of these what one looks like) The only thing my husband said was "I don't care, as long as I don't have to move it to mow the lawn, string trim, etc." YAHOO!!! The next morning I put J. on the bus to pre-school then E. and I were off in my husbands pickup to pick up my big ol' rooster!!! I felt like a country girl bumping along the road home with my treasure in the back of the Chevy....yahoo! So now I have one of those "things" on my little list in my head that I always have wanted, yeah!! But of course do remember....the best things in life are not THINGS!!!

If you don't know who or what the Farm Chicks are (WHAT?? how could that be!?) take a lookie at their blog....I love, love, love the Farm Chicks, I really do...I love the story behind them, I have been to EVERY one of the shows, even the first one years ago in a little ol' barn up in Mead....I love the fact that these gals and their show are in the Spokane area, whoot whoot!! Take a look around their blog, it is lovely and their new cookbook is adorable, I can't wait for their Christmas book, I can only imagine sitting on my comfy couch having a warm wintry beverage and paging through it, but for now I will take the WARM weather and sunny days that are finally here!! Yahoo for the Farm Chicks!!

the lake

Here is one of my favorite pictures from this past weekend at Lake Chelan, yeah those are my feet, me laying in a chair on the beach watching my kids play.

winners!

The May Day Giveaway is over and the winners for my giveaway are....."Little Munchkins", "Kangaroo", "M & E" and "Deb". Thank you all for looking at my blog and leaving comments....there were so many comments about yellow, everyone agrees it is such a cheery color.
When I was a little girl I was not a pink or a purple girl it was yellow, my parents bought me a canopy bed when I was in the 1st grade with a yellow canopy and bedspread (a few years later my brothers and I broke the canopy bed by trying to hang off it, oh well)

I will be sending out emails this morning to the winners!
